Rootbound Courts, Rogue Power: Why H.R.1526 Must Be Stopped
by Haze Medley
There’s a bill working its way through Congress right now that most Americans haven’t heard of—but it could fundamentally alter the way our justice system works. It's called the “No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025” (H.R.1526), and it’s anything but harmless.
The name alone tells you everything you need to know. “No rogue rulings” is code for “no rulings that challenge our power.” This bill would prohibit federal district courts from issuing nationwide injunctions—meaning, even if a court finds a law or policy to be unconstitutional, it can’t stop that law from being enforced against everyone else. Only the specific plaintiffs get relief. Everyone else? Too bad.
This is not about judicial restraint. It’s about judicial disarmament in the face of growing authoritarianism.
Under this bill, the court orders that stopped Trump’s Muslim ban? Blocked. The injunctions that slowed family separation and voter suppression? Gone. The ability of judges to protect the many, not just the few? Crippled.
Let me be blunt: this is a power grab. The same political forces that flooded courts with ideologues are now trying to muzzle those same courts when they occasionally resist. H.R.1526 is a direct attack on the very idea that justice can be systemic, not just individual.
As someone who creates art, writes poems, and climbs mountains to breathe—I feel the weight of this bill in my chest. It’s the weight of being rootbound in a nation where systems twist tighter around our rights with each passing year.
So I’m asking you to act: 📣 Call your senators.
📝 Send a letter.
📢 Talk to the press.
And if you have a platform—use it.
Feel free to copy, edit, and send the letters I've included below! Together, we have a chance to save democracy.
We can’t let the same people who tried to overthrow democracy rewrite the rules so they never have to face consequences again.
This isn’t just about law. It’s about power. And it’s about whether we still have the tools to fight back when power turns toxic.

LETTER TO SENATORS: Stop H.R.1526 – A Power Grab in Disguise
Subject: Block H.R.1526 – The “No Rogue Rulings Act” is a Judicial Muzzle
Dear Senator Ossoff and Senator Warnock,
I’m writing to demand that you oppose H.R.1526, the so-called “No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025.” This bill is nothing more than an assault on judicial independence, designed to benefit an increasingly authoritarian movement.
Let’s be clear: stripping federal courts of the ability to issue broad injunctions doesn’t protect democracy—it protects those trying to dismantle it.
This legislation is a gift to an administration and political faction that has shown blatant disregard for constitutional rights, the rule of law, and basic decency. It would prevent federal judges from halting unlawful policies that impact the public at large, forcing courts to ignore harm even when it's widespread.
This isn’t about “rogue rulings”—it’s about rigging the system. Again.
Senator, I’m asking you to vote NO on H.R.1526 and show that you are still willing to defend the independence of the courts. This bill is a warning shot to democracy, and history will remember who stood up to it—or who stood by.
Sincerely,
Haze Medley

LETTER TO THE PRESS: The “No Rogue Rulings Act” Is a Warning Shot to Democracy
Subject: H.R.1526 Is a Judicial Muzzle, Not a Reform
To the Editor,
H.R.1526—misleadingly named the “No Rogue Rulings Act”—isn’t about rogue judges. It’s about protecting rogue politicians.
This bill would block federal courts from issuing injunctions that apply beyond the parties in a case. That means if a federal policy is ruled unconstitutional, it could still be enforced against everyone except the plaintiffs. That’s not justice—that’s selective legality.
The GOP knows they’re losing ground in public opinion and court challenges, so now they’re trying to rig the rules. This bill is a shield for authoritarianism. It would’ve kept judges from halting family separations, Muslim bans, and voter suppression efforts—policies that required nationwide injunctions to stop widespread harm.
We cannot allow a Congress still bending to Trumpism to kneecap the judiciary. H.R.1526 isn’t a reform. It’s a muzzle. And we should all be sounding the alarm.
Sincerely,
Haze Medley
