Senator Ossoff, Senator Warnock, Representative Loudermilk: Peaceful dissent is not an “insurrection"
Senator Ossoff, Senator Warnock, Representative Loudermilk,
Donald Trump is lying to the nation. Peaceful dissent is not an “insurrection,” no matter how loudly he repeats the word. His goal is obvious: redefine lawful protest as sedition, criminalize disagreement, and frighten elected officials into silence. Your silence would make that strategy succeed. Speak out—publicly, unequivocally, today.
Just as dangerous is Trump’s unlawful federalization of the California National Guard. By seizing control of a state force against the wishes of California’s elected leadership, he tramples the Tenth Amendment, mocks federalism, and sets a precedent that any president can commandeer state troops whenever political theater demands it. If left unchallenged, that abuse could be aimed at Georgia—or any state—tomorrow.
And let us not ignore the authoritarian parade Trump has ordered for June 14. It is not a celebration of American strength; it is a vanity pageant designed to inflate his ego and signal the military’s allegiance to him personally. That spectacle deserves condemnation, not attendance.
I therefore call on you to:
Label Trump’s rhetoric for what it is: a deliberate lie. Make a public statement that protest is not insurrection and that branding it as such is propaganda.
Condemn the federalization of the California National Guard. Demand congressional hearings and support any legal action California pursues to reclaim its command authority.
Denounce the June 14 parade as authoritarian pageantry. Urge fellow lawmakers and military leaders to refuse participation in a political stunt that undermines civilian oversight.
Silence equals complicity. The people of Georgia—and the entire nation—need you to defend truth, states’ rights, and constitutional limits on executive power. We are watching. We will remember who spoke up and who did not.
Stand firm.
Sincerely,
Haze Medley
